Poker out I
An out is that unseen card in a poker game that can make a players hand better and make it a winning hand if it is drawn with more than one round of betting left to be played in the game. All veteran poker players make it an important part of their tactics to know how many possible outs he may be having. So, if a player is playing a game of draw poker and has fours cards of the diamonds suit, then the maximum possible number of outs he has is nine. Again, if he has two small pairs in his hand and wants make a hand of full house to gain the winning advantage, then his count of possible outs is four.
How many outs a player has is often used to depict his drawing hand. So, if a player is said to have a two-outer hand, it means that he had two outs with which he can make his hand better and win. In games of draw poker, sometimes the relation between outs and drawing hands is described such as that if one says a hand for straight draw is 16-way, it means that sixteen outs are possible to complete the hand. A case in point is a hand with 6, 7 and a joker or bug card where to complete a straight hand there are a possibility of four cards each of 4, 5, 9 and 10 value, that is a total of 16 possible outs.
Mathematically, the probability of a player to make a good hand on being dealt the next card can be calculated by dividing the total number of outs by the total number of cards that are yet unseen. Since the calculation of the odds in this way is complex, for lesser number of outs it has been found that an approximate accuracy can be achieved by multiplying outs by four or doubling the number of outs and adding one for the percentage to hit on the subsequent card to be dealt.
